Week 1

I'm starting my blog all over with week 1 for this semester. Over the summer I read a few books and two of them were by Sarah Dessen. I really enjoyed the books by her, so I decided to read another one of her books to start my blog. It is called Lock and Key. It is about a 17 year old girl, Ruby, who gets taken away from her home by child services after her mom abandons her. She lives in her home by herself for quite some time before anyone even realizes she is alone. When child services take her from her home, they place her in her older sisters home. She wasn't in contact with this sister, so she really didn't know her sister or her sister's husband. Things completely change for her the. Even when her mom was around, she took care of herself and was usually alone. Now she is in her sister's house and has to learn how a household runs with rules and responsibilites. So far this book has been really interesting. I always try to imagine myself in the caharacter's position. In Ruby's case, I don't think I would handle the events happening in such a calm manner, but she does. She seems very tough emotionally. I read for about 2 hours this week. I am pretty busy most of the time but i always find time to read before bed. I usually read for 15-20 minutes right before bed and it helps me relax and fall asleep faster.

  1. I haven't read anything by this author, so I may have to check her out. Excellent summary and opinion. I like to put myself in the character's shoes, as well. Makes the book way more interesting. Good to have you for another semester, Laura!! :)
